ตามกฎโดยทั่วไปแล้ว คำคุณศัพท์ในภาษาอังกฤษ จะเรียงลำดับดังต่อไปนี้

การเรียงลำดับคำคุณศัพท์ในประโยคภาษาอังกฤษ

การเรียงลำดับคำคุณศัพท์เพื่ออธิบายคำนามในประโยคภาษาอังกฤษ นั้นมีความสำคัญที่เดียวครับ โดยเฉพาะเมื่อเราใช้คำคุณศัพท์ตั้งแต่สองคำขึ้นไปเพื่อขยายคำนามนั้นๆ
ยกตัวอย่างเช่น
เราจะไม่เขียนว่า An old Indian beautiful carpet.  แต่จะเขียนว่า A beautiful old Indian carpet.  ทำไมนั่นหรือครับเพราะ

ตามกฎโดยทั่วไปแล้ว คำคุณศัพท์ในภาษาอังกฤษ จะเรียงลำดับดังต่อไปนี้ครับ

ดังนั้นวลีที่ว่า  A beautiful old Indian carpet.  เรียงตาม Guidelines ได้ดังนี้ครับ

และถ้าเราจะเพิ่มคำว่า Red and green เข้าไปในวลีนี้ ก็ได้ดังนี้ครับ

บางครั้งเราต้องรู้ว่าคำคุณศัพท์ คำไหนมีความสัมพันธ์อย่างใกล้ชิดกับคำนามในประโยคมากที่สุด เช่น  A large comfortable wooden chair. คำคุณศัพท์ wooden มีความสัมพันธ์กับคำนาม chair มากที่สุด ดังนั้นเราจึงวางไว้ใกล้กันดังนี้

การใช้   but   เพื่อเชื่อมคำคุณศัพท์ที่แสดงความขัดแย้งกันเพื่ออธิบายคำนามนั้น เช่น

และหากเราใช้คำคุณศัพท์สองคำที่มีความหมายทำนองเดียวกัน หรือ คล้ายคลึงกันมาอธิบายคำนามนั้น เรามักจะวางคำคุณศัพท์ที่สั้นกว่าไว้ก่อนเสมอ  เช่น

A soft, comfortable cushion.  อย่างนี้เป็นต้น
